The Alhambra Music Hall, East Dock Street, Dundee

Dundee Theatres

The Alhambra Music Hall was a wooden building in East Dock Street, which was owned by William McFarland from 1866, who provided entertainments by some 40 artistes weekly. McFarland moved out of the wooden Alhambra in 1867 when it had been declared dangerous, and moved into his new venue, the Dundee Music Hall, later adding the words “and Opera House”, which was situated in the old Exchange Building in Exchange Street.

This Music Hall should not be confused with the later Alhambra Theatre on Bellfield Street, established in the 1890s by John Young.

The above information on the Alhambra Music Hall was written for this site by Graeme Smith in February 2013.
