The City Theatre, Mount Street, Manchester

The City Theatre was originally built as a Circus building called Cooke's Circus in 1842.

After the Theatre Royal in Fountain Street burnt down Cooke's Circus was taken over by Mr. Roxby and renamed the Theatre Royal temporarily, opening in June 1844, with a production of 'She Stoops to Conquer'. When the new Theatre Royal in Peter-street was opened the following year it reverted to its former use as Cooke's Circus but renamed the City Theatre.

The Theatre was demolished some time after 1850.
