It was first opened by Frederick Russell on the 12th of May 1856. The North London News carried a piece on the Holborn Raglan in their 20th of December 1862 edition, which amongst other things said:- 'The Lord Raglan Music Hall, Theobald's road, which the proprietor (Mr. Hart) has by degrees transmuted from a simple "singing tavern" into one of the most popular, if not the most gaudy or extensive, of our London music-halls.
The hall in question is an extremely chaste and handsome one - of capacious dimensions (being estimated to hold comfortably a thousand persons), and having more plate glass than pretension about its decoration, there is nothing to fatigue the eye or distract attention from the business of the stage.
Left - A Report on the Lord Raglan Music Hall, Holborn - From the Morning Chronicle, 22nd of September 1856.
The lighting is brilliant, almost to excess - whilst the ventilation is all that could be desired. There are one or two other attractions at the Raglan, apart from the ordinary entertainments, which form an agreeable interlude for those who may be blase with the usual amusements in the hall, and which meet with their due share of appreciation and patronage.' - The North London News, 20th of December 1862.
Arthur Lloyd is known to have performed at the Raglan Music Hall, Holborn in 1868, see the advertisement shown right.
